Notes
Announcement:
Thursday marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, which is being marked by the Royal Mail with a series of commemorative stamps. Readers of Nation will know that, in a different trouser leg of time, Darwin was a regular visitor to that island, but will not know that Nation has also issued a commemorative stamp to celebrate the life of one of its most revered guests.
We have, as it were, brought together these two trouser legs, and will be issuing a special commemorative cover which will bear both the Royal Mail first class stamp, a portrait of Darwin, and the Nation commemorative stamp, a colourful rendition featuring the blue hermit crab and, in the background, a tree-climbing octopus. The envelope will carry an illustration of the island as it would have looked when Darwin first visited, and the insert shows the same view but as it would appear now.
